Efficient Hyperpolarised 13C Metabolic Imaging with Rosette Spectroscopic Imaging

چکیده
Introduction Metabolic imaging with hyperpolarised C1-pyruvate [1] requires efficient spectral-spatial sampling schemes in order to acquire as much information from the precious non-recoverable polarisation as possible. One approach is to excite the magnetisation with a small-tip angle and apply efficient readout trajectories during the FID, like for instance EPSI (echo-planar spectroscopic imaging) [2] or spiral CSI [3]. A particularly efficient readout trajectory is rosette [4]. In this work, we show initial in vivo results for the application of rosette to metabolic imaging with hyperpolarised C1-pyruvate.

Saturation-recovery metabolic imaging of hyperpolarised 13C pyruvate
Introduction Metabolic imaging with hyperpolarised [1-13C]pyruvate (Pyr) enables the real-time detection of metabolism [1]. The resulting encoding challenge for MR is five-dimensional: three spatial, one spectral and ideally one temporal dimension in order to extract dynamic information. Furthermore, the polarisation decays non-recoverably with T1≈30s (in vivo). One approach to address this cha...
متن کاملMRI with hyperpolarised [1-13C]pyruvate detects advanced pancreatic preneoplasia prior to invasive disease in a mouse model
OBJECTIVES Pancreatic cancer (PCa) is treatable by surgery when detected at an early stage. Non-invasive imaging methods able to detect both established tumours and their precursor lesions are needed to select patients for surgery. We investigated here whether pancreatic preneoplasia could be detected prior to the development of invasive cancers in genetically engineered mouse models of PCa usi...
متن کاملFast dynamic 3D MR spectroscopic imaging with compressed sensing and multiband excitation pulses for hyperpolarized 13C studies.
Hyperpolarized 13C MR spectroscopic imaging can detect not only the uptake of the pre-polarized molecule but also its metabolic products in vivo, thus providing a powerful new method to study cellular metabolism. Imaging the dynamic perfusion and conversion of these metabolites provides additional tissue information but requires methods for efficient hyperpolarization usage and rapid acquisitio...
متن کاملImaging Considerations for In Vivo
One of the challenges of optimizing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and image quality in 13C metabolic imaging using hyperpolarized 13C-pyruvate is associated with the different MR signal time-courses for pyruvate and its metabolic products, lactate and alanine. The impact of the acquisition time window, variation of flip angles, and order of phase encoding on SNR and image quality were evaluated i...
متن کاملHyperpolarized 13C Metabolic MRI of the Human Heart
RATIONALE Altered cardiac energetics is known to play an important role in the progression toward heart failure. A noninvasive method for imaging metabolic markers that could be used in longitudinal studies would be useful for understanding therapeutic approaches that target metabolism. OBJECTIVE To demonstrate the first hyperpolarized 13C metabolic magnetic resonance imaging of the human hea...
